Not quite ready for the New Year? I don't think I'm quite there yet... perhaps that's because this time of mid-winter and hibernation and hunkering down is NEVER the restful time that I imagine it should be.
A cosy fire. A pile of books. One day stretching into the next while the snow gently settles outside... it's my dream every year!
But nope. There's the finishing off of work. The prep and then all the mania that Christmas brings. Then the socialising of New Year's Eve. The entertainment of the children and making sure that everyone eats something other than chocolate at least once a day....
No wonder we need to like down after it all (or during it all, in stolen moments).
Then as we reach the new year there's all the pressure to make plans and set intentions....
Well, why don't we take the pressure off and wait a little longer... We call this coming school (and yoga) term "Spring Term" but really we are still in midwinter: The nights draw in early and the ground is cold as stone.
According to the Gaelic calendar, the traditional time to celebrate the end of winter and the arrival of spring, is actually early February. This celebration known as "Imbolc" falls on Feb 1st this year; it's been celebrated in the British Isles since the 10th century as the first day of spring and as the best time to set intentions and goals for the coming year.
It’s when everything else starts to come to life... the flowers, the birds. If you're raring to go, then go for it, but if not, consider slipping into pace with the traditional calendar and take the pressure off for a month so you can ease into 2025 for a slow, restful and steady start to build a strong foundations for the year.
If that sounds good, then come along to yoga where we'll slowly build our practice throughout the term. You're so welcome to drop in for a single class or join for the whole term to get some consistency week on week as we journey through the body exploring poses to support the release of unnecessary tension, strengthening, and restoring flexibility and balance.
✨ 🌸 Spring Term starts January 7th 2025
